Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah commands the Prophet (ﷺ) to leave the disbelievers alone until they meet their Day of Judgment, when they will be struck down by the overwhelming blast of the trumpet (As-Soor). Ibn Kathir explains that this ayah conveys both a command of patience and an assurance that Allah will ultimately judge those who reject His message. Al-Tabari notes that 'yusAAiqoon' (they will be struck unconscious/dead) refers to the devastating sound of the trumpet on the Day of Resurrection, which will render all creation lifeless before they are resurrected.

Revelation Context

Surah At-Tur is a Meccan surah revealed during the early period of Islam when the Prophet (ﷺ) faced intense persecution and mockery from Meccan disbelievers. This ayah appears within a broader passage addressing the Prophet's patience in face of rejection, reminding him that those who deny the message will face inevitable divine punishment on the Day of Judgment.

Related Hadiths

Sahih Bukhari (4953): The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'The trumpet will be blown and whoever hears it will lose consciousness, and I will be the first to regain consciousness, and behold! Moses will be holding the trumpet.' This hadith directly relates to the 'yusAAiqoon' (being struck unconscious) mentioned in the ayah.

Key Lesson

This ayah teaches believers patience and reliance on Allah's justice—we need not be distressed by the rejection or mockery of disbelievers, as Allah has assured their accountability on the Day of Judgment. It reminds us that ultimate justice belongs to Allah alone, and our role is to convey the message while trusting in His perfect wisdom and timing.
