Transliteration

La yufattaru 'anhum wa hum fihi mublisun

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the punishment of the people of Hell, stating that the torment will never be interrupted or ceased for them while they remain in a state of despair and anguish (mublisun). According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi, the phrase 'la yufattaru' (will not be lightened/interrupted) emphasizes the continuity and permanence of their suffering, while 'mublisun' (in utter despair) indicates their psychological state of hopelessness and loss of any expectation of relief or salvation.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the context of Surah Az-Zukhruf's description of the Day of Judgment and the condition of the disbelievers and wrongdoers in the Hereafter. The surah was revealed in Mecca during the period of intense opposition to the Prophet's message, and these descriptions of punishment served to warn the Meccan polytheists of the consequences of rejecting divine guidance.
