Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah depicts a vision of the Day of Judgment where the angels surround Allah's Throne in worship and glorification. After all matters between creation have been judged with perfect justice, the declaration resounds that all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi, this verse emphasizes the absolute justice of Allah's judgment and the universal acknowledgment of His lordship—even the angels themselves bear witness to and celebrate this truth. The scene illustrates the ultimate triumph of divine justice and the unity of all creation in recognizing Allah's sovereignty.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears near the end of Surah Az-Zumar and is part of the vivid eschatological descriptions of the Day of Judgment in this Meccan surah. It follows the discourse on accountability and divine judgment, serving as a powerful conclusion that emphasizes how all creation—both seen and unseen—will witness Allah's perfect administration of justice and unanimously affirm His praise.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said regarding the angels' worship: 'Do you know the distance between the heavens and the earth?' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2790). Additionally, 'The angels glorify the Lord by night and during the day, never ceasing in His worship' reflects the continuous worship described in this verse (reference: themes in Sunan Ibn Majah and other hadith collections on angelic devotion).
