Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah depicts the command given to the angels guarding Hell to cast every stubborn disbeliever into Jahannam. The term 'kafar' (disbeliever) combined with 'anid' (stubborn/obstinate) emphasizes those who rejected truth despite clear signs and persisted in denial with arrogance. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir note that 'anid' specifically refers to those who knowingly rejected Allah's message with deliberate stubbornness, not merely those who erred in understanding.
Revelation Context
Surah Qaf is a Meccan chapter dealing with themes of the Day of Judgment, resurrection, and divine accountability. This ayah appears within the scene of judgment where the righteous and wicked are separated, reflecting the broader Quranic emphasis on consequences for rejection of the message during the Prophet Muhammad's preaching in Mecca.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The most hated person to Allah is 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud's enemy' - referring to one who stubbornly opposes guidance (related to the concept of 'anid). Also relevant: Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet said those who reject signs 'after they have been made clear to them' face the severest punishment (Sunan Ibn Majah and similar collections).
