Tafsir (Explanation)

The disbelievers mockingly challenge the believers by asking if they know of a man (referring to Prophet Muhammad) who claims that after they are completely torn apart and scattered in death, they will be raised in a new creation. This ayah highlights the disbelievers' ridicule of the concept of resurrection. According to Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, this reflects the Quraysh's derision of the Prophet's message about the Day of Judgment, emphasizing their denial of life after death despite the logical coherence of Allah's power to resurrect.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of Surah Saba (a Meccan surah) and addresses the typical objections raised by Meccan polytheists against the Islamic message. The context involves the Quraysh's rejection of the Prophet's teachings about resurrection and accountability, which was one of their primary points of contention with Islam. The surah uses the story of the Queen of Sheba and Prophet Solomon to illustrate divine power and wisdom.

Related Hadiths

The Quran frequently addresses resurrection and disbelievers' denial of it. A related hadith is from Sahih Muslim where the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The best supplication is on the Day of Arafah, and the best that I and the prophets before me have said is: There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearer, the Seer.' This relates to Allah's complete power over creation and resurrection.

Key Lesson

This ayah teaches believers to remain steadfast when facing ridicule for their faith in the unseen realities of resurrection and the afterlife. It reminds us that the disbelievers' mockery and logical objections do not diminish the truth of Allah's power to resurrect humanity, and we should respond with patience and conviction in Allah's omnipotence.
