وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ 43

Translations

And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved

Transliteration

Wa in nashā nughriqhum falā sarīkha lahum wa lā hum yunqadhūn

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah presents Allah's absolute power and sovereignty over creation, stating that if He wills, He can drown people in the sea with no one to help or rescue them. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as a warning to those who reject Allah's signs and rely on false gods or their own strength, emphasizing that no power can intervene against Allah's will. The passage illustrates the futility of seeking aid from anyone other than Allah when faced with His divine punishment.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of Surah Ya-Sin, a Meccan chapter focused on divine signs and the consequences of disbelief. It appears within a broader passage (36:41-45) discussing Allah's blessings in providing ships and safe passage on the sea, followed by reminders of His ability to destroy those who turn away from His guidance. The context emphasizes the contrast between Allah's mercy to believers and His power over those who reject Him.

Related Hadiths

While no hadith directly quotes this verse, it relates thematically to the hadith in Sahih Muslim where the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'No one finds coolness in shade except in the shade of Allah on the Day of Judgment,' emphasizing complete reliance on Allah alone. Also relevant is the principle from various hadiths about seeking refuge in Allah from harm.

Key Lesson

This ayah teaches believers that ultimate security comes only from Allah, and that no wealth, power, or allies can save us from His will if we turn away from Him. For modern readers, it serves as a reminder to place complete trust in Allah and avoid false reliances on worldly means or created beings for salvation.
