Translations
To Him is your return all together. [It is] the promise of Allāh [which is] truth. Indeed, He begins the [process of] creation and then repeats it that He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds, in justice. But those who disbelieved will have a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment for what they used to deny.

Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah affirms that all humanity will return to Allah on the Day of Judgment—a true promise of Allah. Allah originates creation and then resurrects it to justly reward the believers who performed righteous deeds with paradise, while those who disbelieved will receive boiling water to drink and painful punishment as recompense for their rejection of faith. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this verse establishes the certainty of resurrection and divine justice, refuting the polytheists' denial of the afterlife prevalent during the Meccan period.
Revelation Context
Revealed in Mecca during a period when the polytheists actively rejected the concept of resurrection and the afterlife. This surah was revealed to strengthen the believers' conviction in Allah's power and justice while addressing the disbelievers' mockery of resurrection, making this ayah part of Surah Yunus's overarching theme of divine power and inevitability of the Hour.
Related Hadiths
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The Hour will not be established until the sun rises from the west; when it rises and people see it, they will all believe.' (Sahih Muslim 157). Additionally, the hadith concerning the Trumpet being blown emphasizes the certainty of resurrection mentioned in this ayah (Sahih Bukhari 4636).
