وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَٱلْيَسَعَ وَيُونُسَ وَلُوطًا ۚ وَكُلًّا فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ 86
Translations
And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot - and all [of them] We preferred over the worlds.
Transliteration
Wa-Isma'ila wa-al-Yasa'a wa-Yunus wa-Lutan, wa-kullan faddalna 'ala al-'alamin
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah mentions four righteous prophets—Ishmael, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot—and affirms that Allah elevated all of them above the worlds ('alamin), meaning above their respective peoples and generations. And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie or denies His verses? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.
فَلَمَّا نَسُوا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَٰبَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَآ أُوتُوٓا۟ أَخَذْنَـٰهُم بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُم مُّبْلِسُونَ
So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair.
قُلِ ٱللَّهُ يُنَجِّيكُم مِّنْهَا وَمِن كُلِّ كَرْبٍ ثُمَّ أَنتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ
Say, "It is Allāh who saves you from it and from every distress; then you [still] associate others with Him."
