Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah announces that the God-fearing (al-muttaqīn) will dwell in gardens and springs in Paradise. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi, the mention of 'gardens and springs' represents the physical and spiritual blessings of Paradise—gardens symbolizing beauty, abundance, and eternal pleasure, while springs represent pure water and sustenance. This verse establishes the fundamental promise of reward for those who maintain piety and obedience to Allah throughout their lives.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah Al-Hijr, a Meccan surah revealed during the early Meccan period when the Prophet faced opposition and ridicule. The broader context of these verses (15:45-47) presents a vivid description of Paradise as consolation and encouragement to the believers, contrasting the fate of the righteous with the fate of the transgressors mentioned earlier in the surah.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'In Paradise, there are things that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has imagined' (Sahih Bukhari 3244). Additionally, the hadith in Sahih Muslim describes the rivers of Paradise flowing beneath the gardens, directly relating to the 'springs' mentioned in this ayah.
