Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the companions of Paradise as 'kawāʿib' (full-breasted, young women in their prime) who are 'atrāb' (of equal age and beauty to one another). Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi explain that these descriptions emphasize the perfect beauty, youth, and compatibility of the righteous women in Jannah, created without any physical or emotional defects. The phrase highlights the completeness of reward and companionship that awaits the believers in Paradise.

Revelation Context

The surah uses detailed sensory imagery to convince the disbelievers of the reality of the Hereafter. This particular ayah is part of a broader section (78:31-34) describing the rewards of the righteous in Paradise.
