Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the supplication and greetings of the inhabitants of Paradise, where their invocation is 'Glory be to You, O Allah,' their greeting is 'Peace,' and their final and ultimate praise is 'All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.' According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this verse illustrates the perpetual state of worship, peace, and gratitude that characterizes the blessed in Paradise, where even their casual utterances reflect divine remembrance and submission. The progression from glorification (tasbih) to greeting (salam) to ultimate praise (hamd) represents the complete spiritual state of the righteous in the Hereafter.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Yunus (a Meccan surah) within the context of describing the reward of the righteous and the characteristics of Paradise. It comes after verses describing the believers' faith and actions, serving as a description of their eternal reward and the nature of their worship in the afterlife.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: 'The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah, and the best thing I and the prophets before me have said is: There is nothing worthy of worship but Allah, alone, without partners, to Him belongs all dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over all things.' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3585). Additionally, the Quran emphasizes in Surah Al-Fatihah that praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds, connecting to this ayah's conclusion.
