Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah consoles Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) not to grieve over the rejection and mockery of the disbelievers, reminding him that all honor and power (ʿizzah) belongs solely to Allah. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari emphasize that this verse reassures the Prophet that despite opposition from people, Allah's authority is supreme and He hears and knows all things, making the believers ultimately victorious through divine support.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the Meccan period of Surah Yunus, which generally addresses the Prophet's struggle against Qureshi opposition and emphasizes monotheism and divine power. The verse comes after references to the disbelievers' rejection and serves to strengthen the Prophet's resolve during the difficult early years of his mission in Mecca.
Related Hadiths
Hadith in Sahih Bukhari and Tirmidhi records that when the Prophet faced mockery and harm, he was comforted by verses emphasizing Allah's protection. Additionally, the principle of not grieving over rejection is reinforced in Hadith Qudsi where Allah says He is with those who are patient in hardship.
