بَلْ بَدَا لَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُخْفُونَ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَلَوْ رُدُّوا۟ لَعَادُوا۟ لِمَا نُهُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ 28
Translations
But what they concealed before has [now] appeared to them. And even if they were returned, they would return to that which they were forbidden; and indeed, they are liars.
Transliteration
Bal bada lahum ma kanu yukhfun min qablu wa law rudduu la'aadu lima nuhuu 'anhu wa innahum lakadhibun
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah states that the disbelievers' hidden secrets and evil deeds became exposed to them on the Day of Judgment, revealing the reality of their actions. Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari explain that even if they were returned to the worldly life, they would persist in their disobedience and prohibited acts, and they are liars in their claims of reform—demonstrating the hardness of their hearts and their determined rejection of faith.

قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ تَكُ تَأْتِيكُمْ رُسُلُكُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ ۚ قَالُوا۟ فَٱدْعُوا۟ ۗ وَمَا دُعَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ
They will say, "Did there not come to you your messengers with clear proofs?" They will say, "Yes." They will reply, "Then supplicate [yourselves], but the supplication of the disbelievers is not except in error [i.e., futility]."
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
