فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ 13

Within it are couches raised high

Transliteration

Fīhā surur marfū'ah

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the elevated and exalted couches or thrones that will be found in Paradise for the righteous. Ibn Kathir explains that these thrones (surur) are magnificent seats of honor, raised in status and beauty, reflecting the high stations of the believers in Jannah. Al-Qurtubi notes that the elevation (marfū'ah) signifies both their physical elevation and the elevated status of those who recline upon them, emphasizing the honor and dignity bestowed upon the dwellers of Paradise.

Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord... [Are its inhabitants] like those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?

56:19Al-Waqi'ah

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ

No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -

36:57Ya-Sin

لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ

For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]
