Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes the Prophet Muhammad observing people entering into Islam in large groups and waves after the conquest of Makkah. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, the phrase 'afwaja (groups/waves) emphasizes the massive influx of conversions, particularly during the final years of the Prophet's life when Arab tribes accepted Islam en masse. Al-Qurtubi notes this was a sign of Allah's promise being fulfilled and vindication of the Prophet's message through divine support.
Revelation Context
This surah (Surah An-Nasr) was revealed in the final period of the Prophet's life, likely after the Farewell Pilgrimage in the 10th year of Hijrah. The ayah reflects the historical reality of widespread conversion to Islam following the peaceful conquest of Makkah in 8 AH, when the barriers to accepting Islam were removed and entire tribes embraced the faith together.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'People will follow the religion of their kings' (Sahih Bukhari 3500). Additionally, 'When Allah intends good for a people, He grants them understanding of the religion' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2645) relates to the collective embrace of Islam described in this ayah.

Key Lesson
This ayah teaches us that the ultimate success of a righteous cause comes from Allah's support, not from human effort alone, and reminds us that faith spreads most powerfully when hearts are prepared and barriers are removed. For believers today, it exemplifies how truth eventually triumphs when presented clearly and supported by divine will.
