Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah, addressed to the two weighty beings (jinn and mankind), conveys Allah's promise that He will turn His full attention and judgment toward them. Classical scholars like Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir interpret 'sanafrugh' (We shall attend/turn to you) as Allah's declaration that He will hold both creation accountable on the Day of Judgment with complete focus and justice. The ayah emphasizes that despite the vastness of creation, Allah's awareness and judgment of human and jinn actions are absolute and unavoidable.
Revelation Context
Surah Ar-Rahman is a Medinan surah that emphasizes Allah's mercy and blessings, interspersed with references to accountability. This particular ayah appears in the latter portion of the surah where the focus shifts from describing Allah's mercies to reminding both jinn and humans of their ultimate accountability before their Lord, creating a balance between hope and responsibility.
Related Hadiths
The concept relates to Hadith Qudsi: 'O son of Adam, I have not created anything more beloved to Me than you... if you draw near to Me by a handspan, I draw near to you by an arm's length' (Sahih Bukhari 7405), emphasizing Allah's personal attention to His servants. Additionally, Surah Al-Infitar 82:10-12 complements this with the recording angels who are fully attentive to our deeds.
