Description
The Arabic root و-س-ع (w-s-ʿ) conveys the core meaning of vastness, expansion, capacity, and encompassing breadth, both in physical and metaphysical dimensions. In the Quran, it appears frequently to describe Allah's all-encompassing knowledge, mercy, and provision that have no limits, as well as to describe the expanding universe, spacious earth, and the varying capacities and means that Allah grants to different people. This root emphasizes divine infinitude and abundance while also establishing that humans should act within their individual capacity, as Allah does not burden souls beyond what they can bear.
