Description

The Arabic root ح-م-ل (h-m-l) fundamentally conveys the concept of bearing, carrying, or supporting a weight or burden, whether physical or metaphorical. In the Quran, it appears 64 times describing literal carrying of loads, pregnancies, and crucially the bearing of spiritual responsibilities, sins, and the weight of divine trust or covenant.
