Description

The Arabic root س-و-ي (s-w-y) fundamentally conveys the concepts of equality, evenness, levelness, and straightness, both in physical and abstract senses. In the Quran, it appears in contexts describing moral equivalence (whether two things are equal or the same), physical straightness or uprightness (as in upright stature or the straight path), and the act of making something complete, balanced, or properly proportioned (as in God fashioning creation).
